Youth Track Program

NEW YOUTH TRACK PROGRAM

HASTINGS YMCA ROADRUNNERS

We are very excited to announce that the Hastings Family YMCA is introducing a youth track program, “The Hastings YMCA Roadrunners”, starting this Spring! The goal of this program is to expose youth to track and field by having participants get experience in events such as sprints, long distance, throws, and long jump.

This program will be held April 20 – May 18 for 1st – 7th grade boys and girls. Practice will be held on Monday nights from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm led by coaches. We’re also partnering this program with the City of Parks and Rec Department to encourage kids to attend their Central Nebraska Youth Track and Field Meet on April 30 which is free for all participants.

“We sent out surveys to members, asked for feedback from committees and program participants and a youth track program was one of the highest requests that we received. Considering most schools in our area don’t offer track to students until 8th grade we wanted to allow kids to have the opportunity to get involved and develop those skills at an early age. We’re also excited to be partnering with individuals in the community to be coaches in this program and make it a great experience for youth!” – Ty LeBar, YMCA Sports Director

This new program will be partnering with teachers, coaches, and others in the community who have a passion for youth track and field and we’re excited that people are willing to help with the program.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the youth in our community. We are always looking for ways to get, and keep, kids active,” stated Troy Stickels, CEO of the Hastings Family YMCA. “The Hastings community is not immune to health and obesity challenges. We need to do all we can to work with the younger generation to learn healthy eating and exercise habits.”
