The YMCA offers a bit of a twist from our typical programs. The YMCA Hoops League is a competitive youth basketball league for boys and girls in 3rd-8th grades in which teams have the opportunity to play at a higher level than our typical youth recreational programs at the YMCA. For the past several years, this league typically sees around 100 total teams.
The league is coach-select where teams form themselves and register as a team. There are no restrictions to the league, but teams will play a minimum of 8 games in 4 total weeks while skipping the week of Thanksgiving. The Hoops League is designed to provide a more advanced skill level of basketball to teams and players looking for competitive play. Although most teams are competitive and are more skilled than others, the league does offer a semi-competitive division for teams that are less skilled but want to play at a higher level. All games will be played in Hastings-area gyms and most games will typically be scheduled back-to-back or with one game in between. There will be two referees for every game in which every official will be extensively trained to help teach kids the rules, be a source of encouragement, and be a good communicator to both players and coaches.
