Check Out What We’ve Been Doing!

“There’s not much to do in Hastings anymore, so the Y is a great place for kid’s activities. Indoor and outdoor, swimming, sports, camps, and other activities. There is always something going on! We had a great experience with our first year of Jr Bronco soccer. Can’t wait to sign all the kids up in the fall!”

“I love how there is a ton of different activities for the kids to do! With all the different camps, activities and sporting events, there will always be something to do for every child!”

New Equipment

Thanks to our generous donors, supporters, and members, we were able to purchase close to $90,000 in new, and additional equipment, in 2018. This upgrade has allowed us to better serve our members in the areas of health and wellness.

Family Fitness Classes

At the YMCA we understand the importance of families spending time together. There are numerous studies that show the positive impact this has on kids and their growth and development. So we decided what better way to get families to spend time together than by providing family fitness classes. On Saturday mornings families can enjoy time together while being healthy working out doing kickboxing or Zumba.

Grant Funding

We were very blessed to receive 3 grants to help us sustain and maintain three very important programs.

  • $4,500 from YUSA to provide group swim lessons to kids who could not afford the registration fees.
  • $8,000 from Sunnyside Foundation to provide 10 full scholarships to kids at the Adams Central After School Enrichment Program.
  • $10,000 from Union Pacific to purchase STEM equipment for use in our preschool and after-school programs.
Adams Central After School Enrichment Program

This year marked the start of a new after-school program at the new Adams Central Elementary School. Students stay at the school when the day is finished, and YMCA staff take over to feed them a healthy snack, help with homework, facilitate active play, and implement hands-on learning. The after-school program is an extension of the classroom while keeping kids safe and healthy.

New Child Watch Facility

Beginning in 2017, and finishing up in 2018, our maintenance staff constructed a new child watch facility where the arcade was once located. By almost doubling the size, adding a new kitchen, and implementing safety measures, this new facility is a perfect fit. Child watch is a free childcare service offered to members while they are in the facility working out or participating in sports leagues.

Parent’s Night Out

With the addition of a new child watch space, a new program/event was created. Parent’s Night Out is a once a month event kids can be brought to the YMCA for fun activities, creative learning, and active play. Parents are encouraged to spend quality time together, away from the kids, and Parent’s Night Out ensures them that the kids are safe and active.

Corporate Wellness

Did you know that for every 100 employees approximately 60 are obese or overweight? Which means they are more unproductive and are more likely to miss work. This is just one of many statistics that show how important wellness is to a company and their staff. In 2018, the YMCA expanded our offerings and is providing more options for employers to offer incentives for employees to join the YMCA and get healthy. A healthy staff is a more productive staff and the YMCA is a key solution to making this happen.

Endowment

The Hastings Family YMCA endowment has been around for over 30 years, however, it has not been a focus of the YMCA strategic plan for many of those years. In 2018, the Board of Directors and YMCA leadership reprioritized the endowment to make it a focus of our future growth and sustainability. The YMCA endowment is managed and operated by the Hastings Community Foundation and the current fund balance is $400,000. Our goal is to someday growth this to 10x that amount so that the future of the YMCA is secure for many generations to come.
