HOOPS LEAGUE

The YMCA offers a bit of a twist from our typical programs. The YMCA Hoops League is a competitive youth basketball league for boys and girls in 3rd-8th grades in which teams have the opportunity to play at a higher level than our typical youth recreational programs at the YMCA. For the past several years, this league typically sees over 100 teams every year!
The league is coach-select where teams form themselves and register as a team. There are no restrictions to the league, but teams will play a minimum of 8 games in 4 total weeks. The Hoops League is designed to provide a more advanced skill level of basketball to teams and players looking for competitive play. Although most teams are competitive and are more skilled than others, the league does offer a semi-competitive division for teams that are less skilled but want to play at a higher level. All games will be played in Hastings-area gyms and most games will typically be scheduled back-to-back or with one game in between. There will be two referees for every game in which every official will be extensively trained to help teach kids the rules, be a source of encouragement, and be a good communicator to both players and coaches.
3rd grade will play 3v3 half court all 4 weeks. 4th grade will have two options: 3v3 (all 4 weeks) or 5v5 (all 4 weeks). We tested the 3v3 format in 2024, and the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. Teams will register as a whole team and be split on one basketball court, playing against another team, who will do the same thing. This new rule is being implemented to better develop basic fundamentals that can be better accomplished by playing half-court. Teams that do not wish to play 3v3 can play up in the 4th grade 5v5 division.
Above everything else, this league exists for youth to develop, whether teams are new (B division) or are looking to take their game to the next level (A division). You can expect rules that best help youth to develop.

Sign up for our youth Fast Break League! This is a two-week league that extends the hoops league. The format is two games on each date and four in total. The league is limited to 20 teams. Some grades may be combined if numbers are low.
