Hastings Family YMCA Martial Arts The Hastings Family YMCA offers a wide array of martial arts courses including Taekwondo, Hapkido and Gum-Do. Head instructor Steve Hylden has been teaching Martial Arts for 15 years. Hylden is a sixth degree black belt in Taekwondo and a fourth degree black belt in Hapkido. He is also a certified senior instructor on the National Testing Board for the ATHA. The Hastings Martial Arts Center is sanctioned for the American Taekwondo and Hapkido Association. READ MORE ABOUT OUR MARTIAL ARTS BELOW: Women's Self Defense Classes Women's Self Defense will be offered the first Sunday of each month. The class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the 16th Street YMCA. The cost is only $10 per person. Call a friend and sign up today at either YMCA location. The class is limited to the first 20 registered. These sessions will focus on mental strategies and physical escapes. The class is taught by sixth degree black belt master Steve Hylden. TAEKWONDO Taekwondo is considered a "stand up" style of martial art. It combines punching and kicking with an emphasis on a combination of moves while sparring. Taekwondo is easily-recognized from other styles because of the strong association with spinning and jumping kicks. -For both youth AND adults -High level of fitness is not required in beginning -We offer both beginner and advanced classes Hapkido Hapkido is considerd to be self-defensive in nature. Most techniques start at the point where your opponent already has you in his grasp. Joint locks, joint manipulation, pressure points and ground fighting are all emphasized. -For individuals 16 and older -Excellent form of self-defense for adults and women Gum-Do Gum-Do is a martial art that developed over many years in Korea and surrounding countries. The art is recognized by distinct uses of the sword in offensive and defensive movements that demonstrate the skill and concentration of the practitioner. -Offers mental and physical benefits -Improves concentration, reduces stress, increases levels of relaxation -Improved reflexes, flexibility, coordination, strenght and athletic performance -Our Gum-Do program is second to none |
